Ballots Due Today; Use Official Drop Boxes, Not Mail

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) -- It's the final day to drop off your ballots and Oregonians seem to be sluggish voters this year.
As a Multnomah County official put it Monday morning, elections workers are "certainly not overwhelmed."

About 37 percent of Oregon's 2 million registered voters are expected to vote in time for the ballots to be counted Tuesday night. That's lower than in similar primary elections.
Multnomah County's elections director, Tim Scott, said Monday the number of ballots returned each day has matched almost exactly the number returned in the 2006 primary -- the last year of an election for governor.
He says the number of registered voters has risen since then, so the turnout percentage is lower.
Scott says that more voters each year have been dropping off their ballots rather than mailing them in.
